Paddleboarding or SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding) has taken Cayman by storm over the past few years and has been growing in popularity on seems like a weekly basis! Any given day you can see people out for an early morning, mid-afternoon or a relaxing sunset paddle. SUP is a great activity to keep both your mind and body healthy. It is an amazing way to reduce stress, enjoy nature and improve your physical fitness. And don’t worry...if you can stand up you can SUP!
From an exercise point of view, SUP is a low impact activity that challenges your balance and core muscles constantly while helping you build upper and lower body strength. It can also be a great way to stay active when suffering from injuries caused by high impact activities like running. Another amazing benefit of SUP – especially here in the Cayman Islands – is that by spending time and being active on the water, whether it is on your own or with family and friends, you force yourself to slow down and take a deep breath which will no doubt help reduce any stresses in your life.
As a paddleboard instructor, I am blessed to introduce people to this fantastic activity and my passion for SUP drives me to help anyone who wants to give it a go enjoy it and succeed! I never get tired of seeing the smile on an adults face after their first SUP lesson...the fun of paddling, seeing marine life and possibly falling in really does make you feel like a kid again!
