What is the first thing you think of when asked, "What do you do for fun?"  How long has it been since you've actually done that activity?

Our partner, Virgin Pulse, rewards members for committing to healthy behavior.  This month's Healthy Habit Challenge is a reminder to spend a little time doing something you love.

The simple act of focusing on a hobby helps you to switch off your everyday thoughts and do something purely for the joy of it. There are also health benefits related to having hobbies, including:

  • Lower blood pressure
  • Positive state of mind and "eustress" (positive stress)
  • Lower levels of depression
  • Increased social connections

With all of the things we "have-to" do, prioritizing an activity we want to do feels special.  Re-visit a hobby that you used to love, or try something you've always wanted to do.  This can be time alone, or something to share with a friend.

How ever you enjoy your hobby, be sure to track the Healthy Habit, "Hobby Time" during the week of August 14-20.  Each day you track "Did you reserve time to spend on your hobby today?" You will earn an extra 200 points for tracking 5 of 7 days.
